Meeting Sandi Thom

For those at the 2009 Freshers Welcome, the freshers were treated to a performance by Sandi Thom.


For those who don't know Sandi Thom recorded the song 'I Wish I was a Punk Rocker With Flowers in my Hair' which reached number 1 in 2006. She followed this up with 'What If I'm Right' and 'Lonely Girl'. To date she has released 2 albums and is currently working on a 3rd.

I really enjoyed her set and she has come a long way as a musician since those early days. However, she has remained loyal to her fans and continues to use online tools, like in her early career, to maintain contact with them.

As for the interview, it goes to show you never know what can happen at the last minute! Originally, I had just requested for a picture with her (see below), but before I knew it I had only an hour to put together a decent set of questions for her! Cue quick research on her main website, Wiki, twitter, and any other thing I could access on my iPhone!

When it came down to it though she was awesome to interview. Very chilled, very laid back, and very patient! To date I have interviewed a host of musicians, Jim Gellatly, and others involved in the music industry. This was my first number 1 artist, and she definitely made it easier for me by being herself. So thank you Sandi Thom for the interview and I hope all you viewers enjoyed it!

Welcome to The Rock

Alright folks,
I'm Rik and I'm the channel editor for The Rock.

What is 'The Rock' I hear you ask. Well not hear you. And you probably already know. For those who don't, The Rock is not just a movie starring Sean Connery and Nicholas Cage. It is Napier TVs music channel.

Over the last few years the Edinburgh music scene has started picking up, with a whole host of venues popping up all over town. Additionally, with T in the Fringe now a regular part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, there has never been a better time to be a musician in Auld Reekie.

The Rock aims to bring you not only a look at new music on a national level but also the best in local music. This is not necessarily restricted to bands/individuals who perform their own material, but any musician who I find entertaining/talented.

However, with so much going it is difficult to fit it all into the show! So this blog will fill in any gaps and give me a chance to have a lighthearted look at other things to do with the music scene. Most importantly for me though, is the fact that this blog will give YOU the chance to feedback to me and let me know what you want to hear or if you disagree with my (often) harsh opinions!

So lets go onwards and upwards into The Rock!!
